The big attraction this year was the F117 Stealth Bomber which actually flew 100ft above my head at 350 mph at the end of Newcastle's runway 25 on Saturday! (wow) The callsign for this plane was GOTHAM. Ah yes...I first heard this when the tower controller at Newcastle said to the pilot of a BA 757:
ATCO - " With your concent would it be ok for the USAF F117 do a fly past while you line up 25?"
BA Pilot - " Yes that's fine. I've just picked him up on my radar screen..."
Yes. I bet he did. Anyway he flew it straight as a die along 25's centre line and then pulled up to (what?) 30'000 feet in (what?)...20 seconds. Something like that....What a life!
